Whenever we travel, we try to do our best to keep a record of everything that we did & saw for the duration of our trip. The way we tend to this is by taking a lot of pictures & buying souvenirs, and nothing can come close to Texas souvenirs.
It sounds like a bold statement given that there are forty-nine other states that would beg to differ, as well as an entire globe’s worth of destinations whose souvenirs are pretty spectacular. But for some reason, keepsakes from a trip to Texas have an aura about them simply because they are from the Lone Star State.
Some might feel that a souvenir from Texas might be a little too on-the-nose (think rattlesnakes, armadillos, cacti, and horseshoes). Then again, that might be the point, right?
Either way, it all sounds great until you realize that 1) you have to get this stuff home in one piece; and 2) either you or someone has to be able to find a place in your home for your new keepsake. Considering most of us don’t live on rural ranches surrounded by brushy terrain, it might be harder than you realized.
Still, there are plenty of other souvenirs that come from Texas that help dispel the myth of Texas being a land of cowboys and rough-riding trails. In fact, Texas has a lot of amazing things to offer the traveler looking to make a splash back home.
Here are five Texas souvenirs that are sure to please:
A Cowboy Hat – Sure, it’s a little kitschy, but a nice cowboy hat in Texas of good quality has staying power through the years.
Barbecue Seasoning and Accessories – For Texans, barbecue begins and ends in Texas. While other areas of the country have their style and loyal following, nothing compares to Texan barbecue. Picking up some spice rubs for the BBQ fan in your life might just get them to realize they’ve been doing barbecue all wrong.
Hot Sauce – While it may be a direct influence from the cuisine of Mexico, hot sauce is actually big business in Texas. There’s also a big push between some manufacturers to make the hottest hot sauce on the market. The thought is that a Texan through and through can take some serious heat.
Texas Wine – Wine production in Texas is nothing new, and in recent year, their production has earned tremendous esteem the world over.
Texas Olive Oil – On par with the fine quality of its wine vineyards, Texas olive oil production has been booming for a number of years, and with more attention being given to local, quality production, olive oil from Texas is set to take the culinary world by storm.
Texas souvenirs can be just about anything that comes from this big ol’ state. Just remember that rather than the gift shop trinkets that take up residence in a spare drawer in your house, you can really make someone’s holiday bright by thinking a bit outside the box.
